FAIRPORT, N.Y. — The Jr. Americans have set another milestone by tendering their first-ever overseas player: forward Calle Karlsson.
Hailing from the hockey-rich nation of Sweden, Karlsson brings skill and experience developed through high-level Swedish junior hockey. Most recently, Karlsson concluded his second season with IK Oskarshamn J20, where he emerged as a standout performer. In 48 games played, Karlsson notched an impressive 25 goals and 29 assists, accumulating a total of 54 points.
Now, age 20, Karlsson enters a pivotal phase of his hockey career as he embarks on a journey to North America. For Karlsson, this upcoming season is his one and only year of eligibility in the NAHL and presents an opportunity to make an immediate impact.
Sweden has long been a breeding ground for top-tier hockey talent, with numerous players making their mark in the North American Hockey League. According to his Elite Prospects profile, Karlsson was born in Oskarshamn, Sweden and is 6’0″ 154 lbs. By rule, NAHL teams are allowed six import players on their active roster. An import player is defined as a player who is a non-United States citizen. All past import players to play for the Jr. Americans were Canadian.
A tender is a contract, of sorts. A player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft.
The Jr. Amerks are pumped to have Calle and would like to wish him congratulations!
